Technology-Creating our designs

Over the past few weeks the students have used the inquiry process to design a toy or game.
Today our designs 'came to life'.
After we created, we presented our invention to the class and our Year 6 buddies. Of course we had to spend some time testing each others designs!

Designing, problem solving, collaborating, communicating at its best!

Well done Ryan and Hayley. You certainly have been working hard to earn a certificate at assembly this week.

Morning Challenge

This morning's challenge was a tricky brainteaser. We were only allowed to move three sticks to make the fish change direction. Can our friends and family solve this challenge?

Pancake Making

For maths today we made pancakes. We spoke about measuring correctly, temperature and needing to triple the recipe to ensure everyone in Room 21 got to make one!
They sure were delicious!

Next week we are going to make 'packet monster' posters. Mrs Daniel has asked if every child could bring in 1 x empty packet for our posters.

Mandarin lessons

On Monday we had a Mandarin lesson with Vio. She reminded us of how to greet one another in Mandarin and we learnt about the different colours.

NZ Maths Week

For NZ Maths Week Mrs Madden set up a great activity for each class to guess 'How many lollies in the Jar?'
Today for maths we used our problem solving skills, estimation and knowledge on volume and capacity to try and guess how many lollies there are.
Fingers crossed we have guessed the correct answer. We will find out on Friday at assembly if our guess is correct.

Tread Lightly Visit

Room 21 had a terrific visit with the educators from 'Tread Lightly' today. We learnt how we can continue to protect our environment and make a real difference.

The children will be bringing radish seeds home that they planted today. They have decided they want to have a competition to see who can grow the biggest plant. In the last week of this term we will invite students to bring their radish seeds back into Room 21 to share with their peers how big their plant has grown.

Thank you so much to Helen and Liz for your assistance today.

Check out the great photos below.

Term 3 Week 1

What a week! We have enjoyed listening to details of everyone's holiday adventures. It certainly sounds like a lot of fun was had by all!
We wrote about our holidays in an acrostic poem.

Room 21 has taken a special interest in learning about sharks. We have learnt that sharks are unique creatures and we need to look after them by ensuring our rubbish goes into bins and not into our oceans. Next week at Koru Assembly we will celebrate our learning. Here is a photo of Room 21 practising our Shark song for assembly.

We welcome Tom Shi from China who is joining Room 21 for the next 5 weeks. We are enjoying getting to know him and how life for children in China is different from those in New Zealand.
Welcome Tom!
